THE ALGAE INDUSTRY HAS SO MUCH UNTAPPED POTENTIAL WHICH CAN BE REACHED WITH INNOVATIVE BUSINESS MODELS AND TECHNOLOGIES. THE TWO CORNERSTONES OF OUR BUSINESS THAT ENABLE US TO IMPROVE ON EXISTING METHODS ARE: HIGH-VALUE ALGAE AND UNRIVALED TECHNOLOGY.
HIGH VALUE ALGAE
We target a fast-growing, naturally occurring algae strain which produces an abundance of high-value omega-3 oils, plant based proteins and other micro-nutrients that are processed into consumer products. Our products come from a sustainable process, are vegan, gluten-free and grown without genetic modification.
The predominant methods for growing algae are water based, which results in a harvest that is roughly 0.2% algae and 99.8% water. Our cultivation method grows algae OUT of the water resulting in a harvest that is 10% algae biomass by weight. As a result, we eliminate the energy intensive de-watering step and turn algae into final products faster.
We also use significantly less water during our cultivation process and and can operate within less space compared to existing scaled up algae cultivation facilities – which often require tens of thousands of acres of land and consume up to 6,000 gallons of water per 1 gallon of algae oil generated.
Our ability to grow more algae in less space makes our technology ideal for co-location with a CO2 emitting partner. Craft breweries are great source of clean CO2 because they do not produce heavy metals, NOx/SOx gases, or other contaminants. We are partnering with Upslope Brewing Company in Boulder, Colorado for our first pilot algae project.
